APC Constitutes 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, Names Yari DG and Uzodimma Secretary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally constituted its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointing former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary of the campaign council as the ruling party begins a more structured mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The composition of the council was announced by the State House on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu to Chair Campaign Council

President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen.

The appointments place the President and the party’s national leadership at the centre of the campaign structure as the APC prepares to seek another presidential mandate.

Yari, who previously served as governor of Zamfara State and currently represents Zamfara West in the Senate, is expected to coordinate the day-to-day activities of the campaign as Director-General.

Uzodimma, who is also Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, will serve as Secretary and will play a key role in coordinating the administrative activities of the campaign council.

Other Key Appointments

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, was named Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman was appointed Assistant Secretary.

The council will also be supported by a group of senior political figures serving as advisers. They include former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, veteran politician Chief Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.

The appointments reflect an effort to bring together experienced party leaders and political strategists as the APC prepares for the 2027 contest.

Akpabio, Abbas and Buni Get Senior Roles

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General for the Southern and Northern blocs of the campaign structure.

They will work alongside Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau in coordinating activities across the geopolitical zones.

Former Edo State Governor and serving senator Adams Oshiomhole was appointed Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation.

The President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration as another Deputy Director-General.

The appointments indicate the importance the APC is placing on grassroots mobilisation, regional coordination and party organisation ahead of the election.

Faleke Gets Election Planning Role

James Abiodun Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, has also returned to a strategic position.

Faleke was appointed Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.

He will coordinate zonal directors responsible for the six geopolitical zones.

The zonal directors named are Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Media and Communications Team

The campaign council has also established a media and strategic communication structure.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris Malagi will coordinate the directorate alongside former presidential spokesman Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka were appointed coordinating Deputy Directors in the media directorate.

Segun Dada will continue as Director of New Media, a position he also held during the previous presidential campaign, while Solomon Arowolo was named Secretary of the New Media Directorate.

Five spokespersons were also appointed, led by Dele Alake. The others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

Tinubu Charges Council to Defend APC Record

In his message accompanying the announcement, President Tinubu urged members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 election.

The President also directed the campaign leadership to make the administration’s record a central part of its campaign message.

Tinubu said his administration had delivered on its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on what he described as a path of economic progress.

He urged the campaign team to communicate the administration’s achievements to voters across the country while inspiring confidence in the government’s policies.

The President also encouraged the various directorates to involve other party members who were not formally listed in the initial composition of the council but whose contributions could strengthen the campaign.

APC Moves Into Campaign Mode

The constitution of the council marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The ruling party will be seeking to retain the presidency while facing opposition parties and emerging political coalitions that are also positioning themselves for the election.

The selection of Yari as Director-General gives the campaign a senior northern political figure with experience in state administration, party politics and legislative affairs.

Uzodimma’s appointment as Secretary also gives the campaign council a serving governor and Progressive Governors Forum chairman in a key organisational role.

The broader structure brings together governors, legislators, former governors, party officials, ministers, media professionals and political strategists.

The effectiveness of the council will ultimately depend on how well the various directorates coordinate their activities, communicate the administration’s policies and mobilise support across Nigeria.

With the 2027 election approaching, the APC’s latest move signals that the ruling party is transitioning from preliminary consultations to a more organised national campaign structure.

The council will now be expected to develop its mobilisation, communication and election-planning strategies as the party prepares to present President Tinubu to voters for another term.

This report is based on the State House announcement and publicly reported details of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. Individual appointments and campaign responsibilities remain subject to official directives from the council as its operations begin.
