UNIUYO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SETS FOR HISTORIC SPORTS SHOWDOWN AS FEMALE SOCCER TEAM IS UNVEILED
ESAN, FESSA to Clash at Mini Stadium, Town Campus, on October 25

The University of Uyo Alumni Association is set to make sporting history on Sunday, October 25, 2026, as it stages two exciting sporting events at the Mini Stadium, University of Uyo Town Campus, with activities scheduled to commence at 1:00 p.m.
The events, which underscore the Association’s commitment to promoting sports, unity, camaraderie and healthy competition among alumni and members of the university community, will feature an inter-faculty football encounter between the Faculty of Education Students Alumni Network (ESAN) and the Faculty of Environmental Studies Students Association (FESSA), alongside a historic female soccer match involving the Alumni Female Soccer Team.
The inter-faculty contest promises an engaging battle as both teams prepare to showcase their sporting abilities, competitive spirit and institutional pride. Beyond the excitement of the game, the encounter is expected to strengthen relationships among alumni, encourage greater participation in sporting activities and reinforce the spirit of togetherness that defines the University of Uyo Alumni Association.
A major highlight of the day’s programme will be the appearance of the Alumni Female Soccer Team, whose 23-member squad has been announced ahead of the historic encounter. The team comprises seven midfielders, seven defenders, seven attackers and two goalkeepers, reflecting a balanced selection across the different departments of the pitch.
The goalkeeping department features Mfonobong Uko from Uyo and Glory Chigozie from Aba. The defensive line comprises Blessing Nchakem, Glory Etim, UwanaAbasi Udoyen and Mercy Ekanem, all from Uyo; Ini-Mfon Umo and Anita Increase from Port Harcourt; and Rose Emaeyak from Abuja.
The midfield department boasts Victoria Eyakndue from Asaba; Utom-Abasi Udeme, Ruth Onuoha, Doris Akachukwu and Favour Ogbu from Uyo; Blessing Chukwu from Enugu; and Ruth Patrick from Abuja. The attacking department features Guelah Udom, Denny Edidiong, Maria Uka, Anita Enoch, Emediong Archibong and Victory Michael, all from Uyo, alongside Oluchi Agwu, also representing the Uyo contingent.
The composition of the squad reflects the geographical spread of alumni participation, with players drawn from Uyo, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Aba, Asaba and Enugu. Their participation is expected to add colour and excitement to the occasion while demonstrating the capacity of sports to unite alumni across professional, geographical and social boundaries.
The female soccer fixture also represents an important opportunity to celebrate women’s participation in sports and encourage greater inclusion in alumni sporting activities. By bringing together women from different locations under the banner of the University of Uyo Alumni Association, the initiative highlights the role of sports in building friendships, promoting physical well-being and sustaining the bond between graduates and their alma mater.
For the Alumni Association, the two events go beyond the immediate contest for victory. They provide a platform for reconnecting graduates, strengthening institutional loyalty, fostering fellowship and creating opportunities for members to interact outside their professional and academic environments.
The choice of the Mini Stadium at the University of Uyo Town Campus as the venue is expected to make the occasion a gathering point for alumni, students, sports enthusiasts and members of the university community who wish to witness the unfolding sporting spectacle.
With the two events scheduled for the same venue and day, the Association is positioning the occasion as a celebration of sporting excellence, alumni solidarity and the enduring University of Uyo identity.
The University of Uyo Alumni Association has therefore invited alumni, students, supporters and members of the public to turn out in large numbers to support the participating teams and make the occasion memorable.
The date is Sunday, October 25, 2026; the venue is the Mini Stadium, University of Uyo Town Campus; and kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
As anticipation builds, the stage is set for a day of football, fellowship and celebration, with the inter-faculty encounter between ESAN and FESSA and the historic appearance of the Alumni Female Soccer Team expected to make the occasion a significant moment in the sporting calendar of the University of Uyo Alumni Association.
