ANIEKAN BASSEY: GRASSROOTS MACHINERY FIRES UP RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

SAB Ambassadors mobilise for senator, donate 50 chairs; Bassey rallies support for Eno, Tinubu
UYO — The campaign for the return of Senator Aniekan Bassey to the National Assembly received a fresh boost yesterday as the Senator Aniekan Bassey Ambassadors (SAB Ambassadors) mobilised its State Executive Council and Local Government Area Coordinators in a show of solidarity with the senator.
The sociopolitical organisation, which operates across Uyo Senatorial District, paid a courtesy visit to Senator Bassey at his residence in Osongama Estate, Uyo, where it reaffirmed its commitment to his re-election and pledged to remain active throughout the electioneering period.
The senator was accompanied by his Campaign Director-General, Barrister Godwin Awa, PhD, during the meeting.
The gathering had all the trappings of a political mobilisation, with the leadership of SAB Ambassadors using the occasion to demonstrate its organisational strength and reassure the senator that his political structure at the grassroots remains firmly behind him.
Speaking during the visit, the State Coordinator of SAB Ambassadors, Engr. Udeme Obo, praised Senator Bassey for his leadership and performance in office, describing the group’s visit as a practical demonstration of its confidence in his political leadership.
Obo assured the senator that the organisation would continue to mobilise support for him across the senatorial district and remain committed to his political project throughout the electioneering process.
In a significant show of solidarity, the State Coordinator, on behalf of SAB Ambassadors, presented 50 plastic chairs to the senator to support his campaign activities.
The gesture, though modest in material value, carried considerable political symbolism, reflecting the group’s determination to contribute directly to the machinery being assembled for the senator’s re-election campaign.
Receiving the delegation, Senator Aniekan Bassey expressed profound appreciation for the group’s support, describing its commitment as an indication of the strength of the relationship between his political family and the grassroots organisation.
The senator assured the leadership and members of SAB Ambassadors that he would continue to work with them, stressing that their loyalty and contributions to his political journey would not be forgotten.
He also assured members that, if re-elected, he would continue to create opportunities through which those who had supported his political project and the wider electorate could benefit from his leadership.
But beyond his own re-election, Senator Bassey used the occasion to broaden the political conversation, calling on members of SAB Ambassadors to extend their mobilisation to the re-election campaigns of Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Tinubu.
Bassey urged the group to support both leaders, arguing that Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria are better under their respective administrations. He therefore called for sustained grassroots mobilisation in support of the two leaders, stressing the need for continuity in governance and leadership.
The senator’s appeal effectively placed his re-election campaign within a wider political framework, linking his return to the Senate with the continuation of the leadership of Governor Eno in Akwa Ibom State and President Tinubu at the federal level.
Also speaking, the Campaign Director-General, Barrister Godwin Awa, PhD, commended the SAB Ambassadors for their loyalty, organisation and commitment to the senator’s political aspiration.
Awa described the group as an important component of the senator’s grassroots political structure and thanked its leadership for the donation and continued support.
He maintained that Senator Bassey’s performance in office had positioned him strongly for a second term, adding that his record of service constituted a compelling basis for the electorate to renew his mandate.
The Campaign DG urged members of the organisation to remain united, focused and resolute, saying that political victory requires not only popularity but also a disciplined and well-coordinated grassroots structure.
Among those present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of SAB Ambassadors, Dr. Thomas Thomas; the State Secretary, Lady Aniekpeno Andy; members of the State Executive Council; and the various Local Government Area Coordinators of the organisation.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances of loyalty and a commitment by SAB Ambassadors to intensify its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
With the State leadership and LGA coordinators physically converging behind the senator and contributing to the campaign machinery, the message from the group was unmistakable: SAB Ambassadors is not merely watching the campaign unfold; it is positioning itself as an active grassroots force in the battle for Senator Aniekan Bassey’s return to the Senate.
