Mike Augustus Disowns Unauthorized Report, Says God Will Fight for Ibot

MKPAT ENIN, AKWA IBOM — The Chairman of Ibot Village Council in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Michael Augustus Akpan, has clarified that he did not authorise or approve a recent news report attributed to him concerning the ongoing dispute involving the community.

Akpan, while acknowledging his deep affection and commitment to the people of Ibot, said he would not want his name or office associated with any statement he had not personally authorised.

The chairman explained that although he remains concerned about the welfare and interests of his community, he would rather entrust the matter to God than engage in unnecessary confrontation or political controversy.

According to him, his love for Ibot and its people remains unwavering, but he believes that God is capable of fighting the battles of His people and ensuring that justice ultimately prevails.

Akpan’s clarification comes amid heightened attention surrounding the dispute over oil wells and oil recovery activities in the area, as well as recent reports concerning the arrest and subsequent release of some residents.

He therefore urged members of the public, particularly residents of Ibot, to exercise caution regarding statements and publications purportedly emanating from him or the Ibot Village Council without his express authorisation.

The chairman maintained that his interest is the peace, unity and wellbeing of Ibot, stressing that the community’s affairs should be handled responsibly and with due regard for truth and the law.

While distancing himself from the earlier publication, Augustine reiterated his love for his community, saying he would continue to trust God to defend the interests of Ibot and its people.

His position is expected to calm tensions surrounding the matter, even as attention remains focused on the underlying dispute and the competing claims concerning the oil-bearing area.
