Akwa Ibom Bans Three Students from Schools Over Alleged Assault on Teachers

The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education has banned three students from gaining admission into any public or private school in the state following their alleged involvement in the assault of teachers or staff.

The directive was contained in a letter dated July 16, 2026, signed by Dr. Anietie S. Ikot on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Education and addressed to principals of public secondary schools across the state.

The Ministry said it had observed with grave concern the increasing cases of students engaging in violent acts against teachers and other members of staff, including the alleged invitation of touts and other unauthorised persons to assault school personnel within and outside school premises.

According to the directive, investigations into such incidents had led the Ministry to resolve that any student found to have instigated, participated in, or aided the assault of teachers or staff through touts or other unauthorised persons would be prohibited from gaining admission into any public or private school in Akwa Ibom State.

The Ministry further stated that, where applicable and within the limits of the law and relevant regulations, information about such students could be communicated to other schools in the state for appropriate consideration and action.

Principals were directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive and promptly report similar incidents to the Ministry and the relevant Board for investigation and necessary action. The affected schools were also directed to forward photographs of the students to the Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPPS) platform for identification and compliance.

The Ministry said the measure was intended to safeguard teachers, staff and students, maintain discipline and preserve a safe and conducive learning environment in schools across the state.

The three students listed in the directive are Miracle Anietie Okon (F) and Goodnews Anietie Okon (M), both of Ndikpo Grammar School, Ikot Obio Nko, Ibesikpo Asutan, and Elisha Essien James (M) of Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, Uyo.

The directive underscores the state government's resolve to curb violence in schools and strengthen discipline and the protection of teachers and other school personnel.
